British man’s entire trip to Prague cost just £7.65 more than his 60-mile commute to work

A British man says he managed to visit Prague for just £7.65 more than the cost of his usual 60-mile commute to work.

Luke Simmonds, 36, from Surrey, flew to the Czech Republic’s capital on October 11th for an ‘extreme day trip’.

The IT consultant bagged the bargain flights 11 months ago, paying just £8.99 each way, My London reports.

Simmonds says he jetted off with budget airline Wizz Air at 6am and landed in the Bohemian city at around 8.45am.

After spending the day sightseeing, he boarded a return flight home at 5pm and spent just £52.65 in total.

Luke told the publication: ‘This is only a few pounds more than what my commute to work would be.

‘The commute to work is about £40 on the train and the Tube on top so about £45 and it’s 60 miles to travel. A day out in London would have cost more.’

Despite only being in the city for a few hours, Luke managed to enjoy plenty of the popular city breaks bests sights, including Prague Castle and Charles Bridge.

He tucked into local cuisine, which includes hearty stews and ‘chimney’ cakes, and checked out the gothic architecture of the Old Town Square.

Luke added: ‘It just shows what’s possible having a look and a mooch about a foreign capital in a day.’

However, he did note that he realised that there was ‘a lot more’ to see in Prague and he didn’t have enough time to ‘tick it off’.

Nevertheless, he found his bargain day out to be a ‘nice introduction’ to the Czech capital.

Jetting off on cheap day trips isn’t a new venture for Luke, who does this regularly. He revealed Prague was the best-value trip he’s been on yet.

Many other holidaymakers have gone on similar adventures to Luke, including friends Stacey Baugh, 34, and Claire Dukes, 41, who flew to Albania for a 13-hour round trip.

They settled on Tirana, Albania, for their holiday in October and were able to secure £70.08 Ryanair return flights.

Stacey and Claire left their home in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, at 1am to get their 5.55am flight from Stansted – landing in Tirana at 9.50am.

The friends spent £60 per person on a private tour for the day, taking them on a whistle-stop tour of Lake Bovilla, Gamti mountain, Mount Dajti and on an evening city tour.

Stacey and Claire did a zip line over the mountains for 30 euros and had a meal at the top of Mount Dajti for less than 40 euros.

They said the trip cost them £200 each, costing the same as a theatre trip to London.

They landed back in the UK at 1am – arriving back home at 5am – and say it was great value for money.
